Becoming a professor who specializes in teaching professional writing started with a fascination with poetry when I was a tween.
I haven't written any in at least a decade.
The themes in my poetry are autobiographical, often focusing on a time before I became a wife, mom and professor. They are often triggered by sensory experiences that recall profound emotions. Sometimes they just come from the seed of an idea or a turn of phrase.
Lately, I've been feeling motivated to write these fleeting musings down. Maybe it will be a Ms.Take By the Lake that I'll look back at with embarrassment in a few years. That's certainly what happened with my college poems. But, I wish I had them too. The pool of deep memories seems more shallow each year. So, time to dip back in and bottle some before it's gone I guess.
